History

The Venice Canals, or Canali, were created in the 12th century as a way to transport goods and people around the city. The canals were originally built to drain the marshy areas around Venice and were used for trade and commerce. Today, the canals are a major tourist attraction and provide a unique way to explore the city.

Food

Venice is famous for its seafood, particularly its fresh fish and shellfish. Popular dishes include spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams), sarde in saor (marinated sardines), and risotto al nero di seppia (squid ink risotto). Other local specialties include cicchetti (small snacks) and spritz (a cocktail made with Aperol, Prosecco, and soda water).
