History

The Sheikh Zayed Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque, is a symbol of Islamic faith and a tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father and first president of the UAE. Construction of the mosque began in 1996 and was completed in 2007. It was designed by Syrian architect Yousef Abdelky and features a blend of architectural styles from different Islamic civilizations. The mosque can accommodate over 40,000 worshippers and attracts millions of visitors each year.
